5 Ways To Use Apparel Mockups Properly

There’s no question that today’s Esty shopper demands high quality images. There’s also no question that for many new Etsy t-shirt businesses, funds can be limited (it’s why we put together a guide to starting a t-shirt business for under $100 here). Thankfully, there’s a great option for anyone who can’t afford a photographer for their online t-shirt shop: use mockups.

When you use mockups properly, they help you grow your Etsy t-shirt business without having to invest in a professional photographer. Here are 5 ways to use apparel mockups properly, to set your t-shirt business up for success.

Show Your Stock In Action

There’s nothing wrong with a great flatlay, which is why we just released a new flatlay collection for Fall ‘21.

But when you’re selling apparel, people want to know what it actually looks like when someone is wearing it. And to do that, they’ll need to see examples of your clothes on real-life models. So be sure to include mockup images of your clothing being worn by real people.

Switch It Up Seasonally

Of course, if you are selling holiday apparel, then you’ll want to choose holiday mockups, like from our Cozy Christmas and Hey Boo Halloween collections (we’ve even got you covered for the 4th of July!).

But don’t think that ‘seasonal’ only applies to you if you’re selling holiday-related merch. Even if you’re selling basic t-shirts, use summer themed mockups in the summer, fall themed mockups in the fall, and so on.

In our experience, regularly switching photos and mockups and seeing which works best is a good strategy. That’s why getting a Pretty Little Mockup membership, which gives you instant access to thousands of apparel mockups in a wide assortment of themes, can be so helpful.

Provide Diverse and Inclusive Representation

Can you imagine how boring it would be if we all looked the same and dressed the same and acted the same? So why are so many t-shirt mockups still stuck in the same, narrow box?

We work to ensure that our t-shirt mockups include men, women and children of all shapes, sizes and colors. Ultimately, the more diverse and inclusive you can make your shop, the better!

Use Mockups Across All Your Marketing Channels

Of course, when you’re carefully putting together your t-shirt and apparel mockups, you’re probably thinking about your Etsy store. But don’t stop there! If you’ve invested the time and energy into these beautiful photos, then share the love with all your social media channels.

Social media is one of the most important free tools you have to drive traffic to your Etsy shop, but thinking of and making regular content can be quite the challenge. So put your mockups to good use! And if you’re still struggling with social media for your t-shirt store, we’ve got you covered.
