Chances are that if you’re an online business owner, you’ve heard that you need to grow an email list so today i’m sharing 3 email opt-in ideas for e-commerce businesses.
Let me share why having an email list is important:
- An email is 5x more likely to be seen than a post on social media.
- 72% of people prefer to receive promotional content through email instead of through social media platforms.
- 4.24% of website visitors that come from an email marketing campaign buy something compared to only 1% from social media.
So yes, email is important.
But how are you supposed to “grow your list”? The answer is an email opt-in!
Today, i’m sharing 3 email opt- in ideas that are guaranteed to get potential customers on your email list so you can start making more sales.
But first… what the heck is an email opt-in?
An email opt-in is an offer or incentive you provide in exchange for someone’s email address. There are a number of ways to do this and i’m sharing 3 down below.
A Discount
This is the easiest and most common way to get new email subscribers added to your list. Only 2% of people that visit your website will buy from you so adding a discount code will not only get them on your email list but also incentivize them to make a purchase.
Tip: If you do decide to add a discount, make sure to limit the time the coupon is available and make sure to limit it to 1 per customer.
Exclusive Products
Think about creating a line of products that only your email list has access to. When you create exclusivity like this and people sign up, you know you have a tribe of people that are guaranteed to purchase from you.
Make sure to let your subscribers know when they can expect to receive exclusive products from you.
Free Shipping
Who loves paying for shipping? Um… no one. Personally, if I have to pay for shipping, i’ll most likely not buy it… unless I really really want it. Offering a free shipping incentive in exchange for an email signup is a great way to grow your email list while keeping customers happy.
How to send your email opt-in
Now that you have an idea what kind of opt-in to use, you’ll need to setup a welcome email to deliver it automatically.
The email software I use to send out all my email is ConvertKit which I highly recommend. I’ve used Mailchimp in the past and found that it has limited capabilities especially for the price.
Here you can find a tutorial on how to setup everything up.
…and now you’re all done. Happy emailing!
